Dear delegates and faculty,
Hello everyone,
My name is Jamie Nicole Patton, and I am so excited and grateful to be serving as your Secretary-General for the 37th Carolinas Conference!
I am a senior at UNCC this year, studying Political Science and Philosophy. Understanding the unwritten rules of our society and finding a way to solve problems despite them is what drew me to Model UN and debate in the first place, and it's a passion that has only grown since.
Carolinas Conference was my start into the world of Model UN, as it will be, and has been, for a lot of you. It is a full-circle moment to now lead it alongside an enthusiastic and dedicated staff.
To our delegates: the skills you build this weekend will follow you far beyond these three days. Diplomacy, compromise, and problem-solving are not just tools for a committee room. They are skills that will follow you through the rest of your career and your life, whatever path you choose. Every negotiation you navigate, every position you defend, and every compromise you help procure here is practice for the real world waiting on the other side of graduation. We hope you leave this conference not just with new friends and a few good stories, but with a little more confidence in your own voice.
This year's staff is prepared to give you their all, across a wide range of committees, from multiple General Assemblies to specialized committees, to crisis committees built for pure fun and fictional chaos. Whatever level you're at and whatever kind of challenge you're looking for, there's a seat at the table for you.
Now, without further ado, it is my pleasure to introduce you to the 37th Carolinas Conference!
Artificial Intelligence (AI) Usage Disclosure Statement
To maintain the integrity, educational value, and authenticity of debate at this Carolina’s Conference conference, the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools, including but not limited to language models (such as ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot), text generators, research assistants, or speech-writing applications, is strictly prohibited during all official sessions and committee proceedings.
All position papers, speeches, draft resolutions, and other materials submitted or presented must be the original work of the delegate or delegation. Any use of AI tools for content generation, editing, or research during the conference will be considered a violation of conference rules and may result in disciplinary action, including disqualification from awards or removal from the conference.
Delegates are encouraged to rely on their preparation, diplomatic skills, and critical thinking to engage in meaningful and authentic dialogue, in keeping with the spirit of the Model United Nations.
By participating in this conference, all delegates agree to uphold these standards and ensure a fair and academically honest environment for all.
